Revival of the Sorrento & District Hospice Society

Long-term dedicated volunteer and past president of the Sorrento & District Hospice Society, Linda Eberle, has put together a new team, and we are excited to announce that the essential services of the hospice society have been revitalized!

The new board of directors is an enthusiastic group, bringing new possibilities for the society to flourish and reach its full potential.

Building on the already established medical aid equipment loan service, we will also be offering palliative care assistance, individual and group grief support sessions, and, in the future, the addition of hospice related programs.

One of the first orders of business is to rebrand, starting with the name change to South Shuswap Hospice Society. Along with the name change, we have developed a website which will facilitate easy access for community members.

Linda Eberle has been running the society singlehandedly, with the help of a few volunteers, and worked hard to keep it going through the covid years. Her dedicated service over the years will be of great value to the new board as she facilitates the transition.

The new board brings a versatile range of experience, related to all aspects of hospice care. Elected president, Robin Graham, is a retired RN with 40 years in the nursing field and has hit the ground running.

As a non-profit society, we are reliant on community donations and fundraising endeavours. In June, we have two events taking place – the Seniors Picnic on June 17th, at the Sorrento Retreat & Conference Centre. You will find Robin, Linda, and a few of the new directors at an information table. Stop by and say hi!

Our second event is in collaboration with the Sorrento Slo-Pitch League. They will be fundraising for the society at their annual wrap-up event on June 21st. This event is open to the public – there will be a dance and raffle of community donated items. Tickets available at Sorrento Village Grocer and Munro’s Pharmacy.
