MLA David Williams: Fighting for Fairness, Standing Up for Salmon Arm–Shuswap
By Salmon Arm–Shuswap Constituency Office
Davis Williams, MLA
Since his election in 2024, Salmon Arm–Shuswap MLA David L. Williams has shown he’s not in Victoria to blend in—he’s there to fight for fairness. In a Legislature often dominated by Lower Mainland voices, Williams has worked to ensure rural priorities are not pushed aside.
From the beginning, he has championed our region and opposed policies that treat Salmon Arm–Shuswap as an afterthought. Whether it’s challenging BC Hydro’s “Call for Power” process—which excluded some First Nations, private power producers, and local governments from meaningful consultation—or opposing legislation that bypasses environmental safeguards, Williams’ position is clear: Rural B.C. Deserves Better.
Delivering Local Results
In just his first year, Williams has helped to deliver real, tangible improvements that matter to people here at home:
Accessible constituency office – Relocated to a convenient location with a welcoming atmosphere and knowledgeable staff ready to assist with your concerns.
Sicamous fireboat station operational – Advocated for and secured a provincial foreshore permit to bring a much-needed service to Shuswap Lake. This will strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve safety on Shuswap Lake for residents and visitors.
Black Road paved – Our office has prioritized road maintenance and upgrades. Finally, this vital transportation route is now safer and more accessible for residents, farmers, and businesses.
Watershed management leadership – Convened farmers, residents, and water experts to protect drinking water, reduce irrigation restrictions, and safeguard ecosystems.
O’Keefe Ranch stewardship – Serving as a director to help secure the long-term viability of one of the region’s most significant historic attractions.
A Watchdog in the Legislature
Williams has consistently spoken out against the provincial government’s tendency to funnel resources into politically convenient urban projects while rural needs wait at the back of the line. He has pressed for fair budget allocations and sustained investment in roads, healthcare, agriculture, and energy infrastructure.
“Our communities work hard, pay their taxes, and contribute to the province’s economy,” Williams says. “It’s time we see our fair share of investment—whether that’s in roads, healthcare, or economic opportunities.”
Looking Ahead
Williams says his focus moving forward will be on building economic self-reliance, ensuring genuine consultation with rural communities, and making sure government decisions are based on practical outcomes, not political optics. He emphasizes that long-standing problems demand solutions with clear timelines, not just promises.
“I will continue to stand up against short-sighted policies and demand accountability from this government,” Williams says. “Fairness for Salmon Arm–Shuswap isn’t just a slogan—it’s a promise.”
Williams also notes that the work is far from over. With major challenges ahead—from maintaining infrastructure and healthcare access to ensuring private land is protected and crown land is for all to enjoy. Most importantly, it is imperative that local voices are heard in provincial decision-making.
