Children and families in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) will soon enjoy exciting new recreation opportunities as the CSRD moves forward with approximately $1.8 million in playground upgrades at three community parks in Electoral Areas C and G.
The improvements will enhance creative and inclusive play experiences for children of all ages at Sunnybrae Community Park, Cedar Heights Community Park, and Sorrento-Blind Bay Community Park. The park designs were developed based on feedback provided by residents through public surveys. At Sunnybrae, the first phase of improvements includes custom shade sails, sensory multi-play panel and meadow trail. A water mister area will be added during the second phase of the project.
Cedar Heights will receive a new modular pump track and a wide range of modern playground features, including a custom swing set, explorer dome, rotating climber, zipline, double tower with cliff rider, spinner bowl, sensory play elements and more.
The existing shade structure will remain to provide comfort during the hot summer days.
At Sorrento-Blind Bay, upgrades will include a shade sail, swing set, climber, double tower with cliff rider, spinner bowl, sensory multi-play panel, rattle roller wheel and stepping pods.
The CSRD Board approved the playground projects and related financial plan amendments at its August 20 meeting. Equipment will be ordered immediately and installation will be weather dependent, with hopes of getting started in late fall or winter. If the weather doesn't cooperate, installation will start in spring 2027.
