There’s something for everyone this summer as the renowned Arts and Gifts Show returns to Blind Bay.The event runs at the Blind Bay Hall from July 9 to August 2 and will feature 14 local artists. Hours are Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and admission is free.

Visitors will find original paintings in various media (watercolour, oil, acrylic and pastels), jewellery, stone carvings, stained glass, quilts, upcycled denim creations, silk scarves, woodcraft, home décor, greeting cards and other gift items.

Coordinator Rosalind Crocker says it has been rewarding to see participating artists, both established and emerging, collaborate and support one another. Each artist brings their unique style; with the beauty of the Shuswap perhaps being the common inspiration that binds them.

Rosalind explains that the purpose of the show is threefold: “To showcase and support local artistic talent; to provide residents and seasonal visitors an opportunity to appreciate the artistry of the Shuswap; and to benefit our venue, Blind Bay Community Hall.” Artists’ entry fees and a small portion of the proceeds from sales go to the hall.

Patti Glynn, Events Coordinator at the Blind Bay Hall, is happy to collaborate with the artists to host this event: “The Blind Bay Community Society believes in the Arts and Gift Show. We have been involved with the arts for many years and events like these encourage local arts and culture and help strengthen our local economy.”

Blind Bay Hall, in addition to being a vital community gathering place, is home to the Reedman Gallery; a space specifically designed for artists. Participating artist Elli Chambers describes the gallery as a “unique gem in the area”; noting that the lighting and exhibition walls are perfect for showcasing art.

Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with the artists staffing the show each day. According to Rosalind, this is also a significant benefit for participants: “For artists to share time together and learn about each other’s work is an enriching learning experience.”

Another unique aspect of the show is the diversity of art on display. Repeat visits are encouraged as the art will change as the show progresses!

Both artists and organizers look forward o celebrating creativity in the Shuswap and offering patrons a chance to support and strengthen our local arts culture. Elli Chambers says that this event “brings us together and highlights for everyone that we value community.”

Colour in your calendar from July 9 to August 2 and come out and enjoy the creative brilliance that thrives in the Shuswap.
