South Shuswap Canada Day 2026: A Celebration to Remember

By Tammy Edwards

The 2026 South Shuswap Canada Day celebration was truly one of the best I have had the privilege of helping organize in my 18 years of involvement. It was a wonderful day that brought our community together, and its success was only possible because of the incredible support of so many individuals, businesses, organizations, volunteers, and sponsors.

While our dedicated board members and subcommittees work tirelessly throughout the year to make this event happen, we also rely on the generous support of our advertising sponsors and community partners. We would like to take a moment to recognize several organizations whose contributions often happen behind the scenes.

A special thank you goes to Shuswap Lake Estates, who not only allowed us to construct our stage on their field and the use of the field each year, but also ensure the grounds are freshly mowed and ready for the celebration. The mowing and grounds maintenance support has been especially appreciated since our previous maintenance person moved away from the area.

We would also like to recognize AIM Roads. In addition to being one of our valued advertising sponsors, they made sure the ditches and road shoulders along the parade route were mowed in advance of the festivities, helping present our community at its very best.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of the BC Wildfire Service - Ministry of Forests, the Kamloops Fire Centre, the Ministry of Transportation, the Salmon Arm RCMP, and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD). In addition to processing and approving the many permits required for the event, these organizations keep us informed throughout the planning process. While permits are often finalized just before Canada Day, knowing they are progressing provides invaluable reassurance and greatly reduces the stress involved in organizing an event of this size.

We were also fortunate to enjoy optimal weather conditions, which helped make the day even more memorable. Most importantly, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors, vendors, supporters, attendees, and volunteers. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment are what make the South Shuswap Canada Day celebrations the “Biggest Little Celebration” year after year.

Although the 2026 celebration has come to a close, planning is already well underway for 2027. Next year will be especially significant as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canada Day in the South Shuswap. We look forward to welcoming everyone back as we mark this incredible milestone together.
