Mount View Sign Improvements
I would like to give Kudo's to a gentleman who resides in the Shuswap Estates, for his community minded spirit and generosity. As you may or may not know, Mount View Subdivision is one of the earlier developments of the Shuswap Estates. When we moved to Mount View 18 years ago, all of the lots were sold and most were developed. Sadly the 'Mount View Subdiv' sign itself, at the corner of Balmoral and Mount View was already starting to look tired and unkempt. So after residing here for approximately 3 years I approached the powers that be, about the possibility of upgrading our Mount View sign, with some paint. I also suggested that perhaps they would consider removing the 'subdiv' portion from the sign, which just seemed silly. Their response: "We no longer have an 'interest' in that subdivision --- do as you please!" Assuming that nothing would be done, I took on the task of removing the 'subdiv' portion from the sign, then repainted it. I also trimmed the cedars; that was some 15 years ago. Regrettably there has been no further upkeep of this sign, and once again, it had become extremely faded and decrepit in appearance, along with overgrown cedars.

Then one day this spring, I was shocked to see someone actually cutting and trimming the cedars around the sign, and REPAINTING IT in a bold different colour scheme. I was shocked; it looked absolutely gorgeous, so I stopped my vehicle and inquired as to what was going on? The gentleman said that he was embarrassed and tired of trying to explain to visiting family and tourists (when giving directions), as to why our sign looked so run down in such a beautiful area. Accordingly he took it upon himself, to trim all the cedars, scrape the sign, and then repaint it on his own dime and time! I asked his name and he replied: 'Alec(x)?' Well Alec(x), Kudo's to you my friend --- for you are truly the kind of folk that make us proud of this community!
